Malibu West residents, after seeing the unimaginatively designed revised city park plan, cared enough to spend their own money to hire renowned architect Ron Goldman to design Trancas Park. Ron conceived a beautiful park design that incorporates all of the workshop attendees’ wishes.
Councilpersons [Andy] Stern and [Sharon] Barovsky mistakenly characterized these caring residents as park opponents and of designing a park that is contrary to the wishes of the workshop attendees. Even after the valiant efforts of Councilpersons [Jefferson] Wagner and [Pamela Conley] Ulich to get the Goldman Plan considered, it was rejected by the remaining council majority under the excuse that it was not following the wishes of the workshop attendees.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Ron Goldman and those that hired him did the city a great service. The council majority unfortunately didn’t understand that the Goldman park [plan] was in fact just another version of a workshop plan and a brilliantly designed one at that.
With this new insight, the City Council should definitely reconsider its approval of the inferior city plan and look anew at the Goldman Plan so that Malibu can have the best park possible, one we can all be proud of and admire.
