A two-vehicle collision Friday afternoon in east Malibu delayed eastbound traffic for nearly two hours and resulted in one of the drivers being airlifted to a local hospital.

The accident was reported at approximately 5:15 p.m. near Carbon Canyon Road, according to Sgt. Johnson with the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station. The cause of the accident is not currently known, although Johnson said it appeared one of the cars had crossed over into oncoming traffic.

One driver was airlifted by helicopter to a local hospital from Pepperdine University. The extent of the driver’s injuries are unknown.

The accident caused eastbound traffic on PCH to be backed up past Malibu Canyon Road until approximately 7 p.m.
