Letter: The Next Election

Letter to the Editor

Now that the City Council election is over, it is time to turn our attention to the campaign for the 33rd Congressional seat that U.S. Representative Henry Waxman is vacating. Lifelong Democrat Marianne Williamson is running as an independent in the race because she is convinced that both parties in our current bi-partisan system are beholden to the groups, corporations and wealthy individuals that finance their campaigns. She says, “We’ve become a country of a few of the people, by a few of the people, for a few of the people.” Getting money out of politics will be Marianne Williamson’s number one job. She supports a Constitutional amendment to override Citizen’s United and the Supreme Court’s recent McCutcheon decision.

I encourage District 33 residents to register to vote in the June 3 primary and educate yourselves about the candidates. Please keep an open mind about supporting an independent, especially since she is an internationally acclaimed author, lecturer and activist.

Marianne will be here in Malibu to articulate her platform and field the public’s questions at two free events at the Malibu Library on April 24 at 12:30 p.m. and Wednesday May 7 at 6 p.m.
