Malibu activist and founder of the Creative Visions Foundation, Kathy Eldon, spoke at a vigil for Nelson Mandela that took place at the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. The vigil was the only one scheduled to take place in Los Angeles at the same time his funeral took place in South Africa.
Eldon was nominated by President Mandela’s grandsons on July 18 to receive the George H. W. Bush “Daily Point of Light” award for her work in Africa and around the world. Other speakers at the vigil were Adam Radly, founder of Faces of Unity, and Piper Dellums, author of “The Color of Friendship.”
