Five Malibu High School students recently competed in the Kiwanis Vocal Scholarship Auditions in Santa Monica. Middle School choir members Isabella Thatcher, Jade Bates, Hailey Hoffman and Martha Thatcher competed against 24 other middle school singers in the May 19 contest. Jade Bates was awarded second place and received a $250 scholarship award, and Hailey Hoffman and Martha Thatcher both received honorable mentions. Last week Wednesday, Malibu High School student Olivia Thorne took fourth place in the high school division and was awarded a scholarship of $200.
Malibu residents will have an opportunity to hear MHS singers perform at the Choral Music Department’s annual spring concerts. Soloists will perform on June 9 at 7 p.m. at the school, 30215 Morning View Drive, and the Choral Music Concert, featuring the Middle School Concert Choir, Girls Select Chorus, High School Chorale, Women’s Choir and the MHS Chamber Singers, will be held June 10 at 7 p.m. Both concerts are free.
