3:40 p.m. update: A small spot fire was put out in Calabasas at 3:31 p.m. Fire officials received a call for the fire at 3:02 p.m. and were on the scene at Meadow Creek Lane and Lost Hills Road, near the 101 freeway, at 3:08 p.m. The fire burned approximately a half-acre. There is no confirmation the fire was related to the Springs fire in Camarillo, according to Inspector Quvondo Johnson of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

2:40 update: The Los Angeles County Fire Department has moved two strike teams into Malibu as a precaution in case the Camarillo fire spreads south. Battalion chief Tom Sullivan said the teams, which consist of about 50 personnel, have been scattered throughout Malibu and the 101 freeway corridor.

“We’ve moved up crews into the area, we’re also coming up with a contingency plan just in case there are any kind of wind shifts,” Sullivan said.

Sullivan confirmed that LACFD sent a strike team from Malibu to assist with the Camarillo fire earlier Thursday morning

The Los Angeles County Fire Department has assured the City of Malibu that a brushfire raging in Camarillo does not pose a threat to Malibu, Emergency Services Coordinator Brad Davis said.

“At this point there’s no cause for panic,” Davis said. “We’re not anticipating any threats.”

As of 12:40 p.m., the Springs fire had burned at least 6,500 acres in Newbury Park and Camarillo, Ventura County officials said. It was 0 percent contained.

Davis said he has been in constant contact with L.A. County Fire officials and is keeping a close eye on media reports of the fire.

State Parks officials have shut down Point Mugu State Park in western Malibu and Ventura County fire officials fire the Springs fire could spread as far as the Pacific Ocean. Officials are also considering closing down a 10-mile stretch of Pacific Coast Highway near the county line.Â
