Advocates for Malibu Public Schools’ (AMPS) political action committee (PAC) announced that it has endorsed Craig Foster, Laurie Lieberman, Richard Tahvildaran-Jesswein and Oscar De La Torre as candidates for the Board of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. The AMPS board submitted detailed questions to all candidates regarding their vision for the entire district as well as the unique concerns of the Malibu community. The endorsements reflect a majority of the AMPS board of directors.

“We chose the candidates we believe will do the best for all the children of the school district,” stated Karen Farrer, Vice President of AMPS. “We also felt very strongly that each candidate needed to be open to a separate Malibu Unified School District, while offering up unique and new ideas to help build bridges between the Malibu community and the district.”

AMPS will be emailing its members to educate them about the endorsements and will be posting the entire responses of all candidates on its website. AMPS intends to work through its AMPS PAC to assist in electing the four candidates it has endorsed.

Says Farrer, “With four seats open, this is a critical election, and AMPS feels it is important that both the Santa Monica and the Malibu communities understand where candidates stand on the issues of importance to parents, teachers, and students.”
