The Malibu High School (MHS) orchestras presented their Winter Concert on Dec. 10 under the leadership of Dr. Maia Zander.
The concert opened with performances by the sixth and seventh through eighth grade orchestras, which performed a series of intricate selections featuring multiple student solos.
The High School Chamber Orchestra took on works featuring solos by seniors Emma Gallagher, Molly Gallagher and Rachel McConnell. MHS opera singers Isobel Anthony and Maggie Valdman joined the orchestra for a rendition of Offenbach’s “Barcarolle.”
A group of elementary students joined and professional jazz violinist Nora Germain collaborated with all three orchestras for the grand finale featuring Henry Mancini’s classic “Peter Gunn.”
The High School Chamber Orchestra is one of five student orchestras nationwide chosen to participate in Manhattan Concert Productions’ Carnegie Hall Symphonic Series, and the students are currently fundraising to travel to the performance in June.
