As an owner of the 24-acre Bluffs property located at PCH and Malibu Canyon Road, I would like to state clearly that I fully support the proposed Development Agreement between the City of Malibu and the Crummer Family Trust which would provide approximately seven acres for ball fields to the city and eight residential lots, consistent with the city’s general plan.
This agreement would permit State Parks to reclaim the current Little League fields pursuant to the expiration of its lease with the city, while allowing the city to replace this valuable resource in the form of a donation to the city.
The state, the city and the property owner are all able to benefit from the productive use of this exceptional and valuable site. Unfortunately, there is a disagreement between the Coastal Commission’s LCP and that of the city. To be sure, this is an extraordinary piece of property, particularly with its situs connecting the ocean to Los Angeles, the mountains and the valley. However, the proposed Development Agreement recognizes the public uses of the respective properties and actually expands the visitor serving potential which is why State Parks is supporting the agreement.
I am very hopeful that the common goals of the city and the Coastal Commission will be mutually recognized and that the Development Agreement will receive a favorable vote sometime in March.
