To Sam and Nidia Birenbaum and their call for a “Malibu Beach Dog Patrol” I say, Catch me if you can. My walks with my dog are precious moments that we savor on a daily basis and we will continue to do so as long as we are both able to do so. I don’t have the time to expound on what it means to both of us but the Birenbaum Patrol needs to know that there are many of us who faithfully remove our dog’s poop and the beach belongs to all of us, including our dogs. Having the tides wash away our dog’s sterile urine gives a natural and thorough cleansing to the sand on a daily basis.
What bothers me are people like the Birenbaums whose legendary septic system fill the shore with serious pollutants, endangering lives. I recommend that they clean up their act before lecturing others about dogs on our beaches. There are relatively inexpensive UV systems available now that will eliminate pathogens completely. Come on Rover, let’s go for a walk.
