Letter: Trade pitch fails

Please don’t sell Charmlee Wilderness Park for some ball fields in town. Charmlee is a prize belonging to Malibu and shouldn’t be up for barter or modification, it’s fine just the way it is. Charmlee isn’t broken and doesn’t need to be developed into a busy campground, it’s a perfect example of a functional wilderness park. It’s literally priceless, like the lagoon was.

Selling Charmlee for ball fields is trading apples for oranges. Ball fields and wilderness sanctuaries aren’t exchangeable goods.

I attended the Charmlee walkthrough this morning because I live adjacent; it was basically a tour of the proposed new facility. Why was the city manager acting like a realtor at an open house? It seems like the powers that be have already hammered out all the details for us. I left before the tour started, because scheming city folk disgust me. Also I’m familiar with the current facility, and I don’t nee! a hike to get me up to speed on the new layout.

I had far better things to do with my time today than defend northern Malibu from agenda based park trades by hiking with the city manager. As a resident in the area, I wish to voice complete opposition to this ludicrous trade, and to be informed where I can vote “no” or whatever without hiking. I’m not taking the tour to get the hibachi. That was nonsense.

Don’t sell Charmlee.
