Architect W. Gayle Daniel died on May 13 in Malibu. He was 77 years old.

Born in Tatum, N.M. on Aug. 2, 1931, Daniel came to California with his family in the early 1940s. He graduated from Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles, and married Adriana Mostert in 1956.

A Korean War veteran, Daniel earned his bachelor’s degree in architecture from Arizona State University in 1961. He then started his own architectural firm in 1966 and was still actively designing up to the time of his death.

Daniel taught architecture and engineering courses at Santa Monica College and Pierce College and was an active member of Malibu Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed playing his trumpet and being with his family. He is survived by his wife and his four children and their families.

A service is scheduled to take place May 21 at 1 p.m. at Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth.
