Damage to a Navy battleship from a drone collision off the coast of Malibu last November resulted in $30 million worth of damage, mostly brought on by the partial destruction of a key computer room aboard the USS Chancellorsville.

The ship will take about six months to repair, USNI reported.

Two people were burned when some sort of “breakdown in communications” occurred on November 16 and a Northrop Grumman BQM-74 drone crashed into the battleship’s port side near Point Mugu, where officials were controlling the 13-foot drone as sailors aboard the Chancellorsville used it to help conduct a routine radar test.

Approximately 300 people were onboard the ship at the time of the collision. Despite the damage, the Chancellorsville was able to cruise back to its home port in San Diego on its own power days after the crash.
