The Malibu Civic Center stakeholders will hold their next meeting on May 31, discussing the latest developments in the ongoing process to construct a centralized wastewater treatment system in the Civic Center slated for opening by November 2015.Â
The wastewater treatment plant is expected to generate large sums of recycled wastewater, which the city plans to store underground in the Civic Center via a method called deep-well injection. According to a powerpoint presentation of the stakeholders’ May 2 meeting, several groundwater monitoring wells have been installed in the Civic Center. Engineering firm RMC Environmental will use the wells to conduct test to determine the  viability of the sites for storage.Â
The powerpoint presentation contains updates on the project’s progress, as well as photos depicting the construction of monitoring wells. The photos are also attached to this article.Â
The progress, according to the presentation:
— Super Care Drugs (23661 PCH): two wells installed
— Civic Center Way: one well installed
— Animal Hospital (23431 PCH): one well installed
— Malibu Road: two wells being installed
— Malibu Colony: two wells will be installed
— State Park land: one well will be installed
The stakeholders consist of commercial property owners in the Civic Center, who are each paying into an assessment district to fund the system, as mandated by a Memorandum of Understanding with the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board.
