I have been sailing and boating in the Santa Barbara Channel all of my life. I have witnessed the degradation of fish populations and the environmental health of areas surrounding both Anacapa and Santa Cruz islands from the 1970s to the 1990s.
I have also witnessed in recent years, the Nature Conservancy, the National Park Service, other agencies, and private organizations spend countless dollars and expend enormous amounts of energy attempting to bring the environmental health of Santa Cruz Island back.
There is a very real reason why so many agencies and private organizations are protecting the fish and wildlife: there has already been too much environmental damage to the area.
Please take note that there is no way to mitigate the environmental damage that a liquid natural gas regasification station so close to Santa Cruz Island will do. Do not let the efforts of our own government and private organizations be undone.
The Northernstar Clearwater Port application should be denied!
