Tom Robbins, author of “Even Cowgirls Get the Blues,” is coming to DIESEL in Malibu on June 19.
And, to prepare for the grand occasion, DIESEL has decided to start up a Tom Robbins Book Group in anticipation of his arrival. Our first book is “Even Cowgirls Get the Blues.” Classic Robbins, this is the brilliant and hysterical tale of large-thumbed Sissy Hankshaw’s wild adventures. It may be the iconic novel of ‘70s American culture. It is a fun read, or re-read, and discussions promise to be hilarious. The first Tom Robbins Book Group meets Wed., May 7 at 6 p.m. (To sign up for the Book Group email mallibu@dieselbookstore.com, or call 310.456.9961.)
Our second book will be Robbins’ latest memoir “Tibetan Peach Pie: A True Account of an Imaginative Life.” The book publishes on May 27 and we will begin reading it as soon as it comes out. Then we will have a Book Group Meeting, along with his public reading at our store in Malibu, on Thursday June 19. To pre-order your copy of his book (and get a ticketed seat with each book purchased), email malibu@dieselbookstore.com, or call 310.456.9961.
“Tibetan Peach Pie” is a powerful memoir embodying the bold, adventurous, playful and imaginative American life found in Whitman and Twain, and regenerated in the counterculture of the 60s and 70s. From “Even Cowgirls Get the Blues” to “Still-Life With Woodpecker, Jitterbug Perfume” to “Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates,” he has entertained, prompted and inspired readers to adventures of our own, whether in the realms of philosophical speculation, or travels far and wide.
