Thank you for your efforts to solve this very real problem here in Malibu, I like the “behavioral” approach that you are taking. These visitors on their motorcycles, I’m sure, are not bad people and may not even know to what extent their excessive noise affects the lives of the citizens and business owners in Malibu. Two web sites you may be aware of have great volumes of information on what has been done and can be done to alleviate this problem. One site is recommending an EPA stamp on all mufflers that states the muffler meets the EPA requirement of 80 dBA @ 50 feet.
They say this is mentioned in US Code of Federal Regulations 40 CFR 250 in the NPC Law Library. The two Web sites I mentioned above are www.nonoise.org and www.stopmotorcylenoise.com. It will certainly be nice to some day sit at Sunday brunch in a restaurant along PCH and actually hear what the other person across the table is saying.
