To celebrate America Recycles Day on Nov. 15, the City of Malibu joins Sustainable Surf, Marko Foam and Access document shredding service to provide locals with recycling opportunities throughout the month. In addition, the city will also start a new outreach program using standardized logos to ease the recycling process at all Malibu facilities.

First, Waste to Waves polystyrene foam recycling will take place from Nov. 1-30. Residents can drop off the foam in the upper parking lot of City Hall Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Environmental organizations Sustainable Surf and Marko Foam will collect and recycle the polystyrene foam. Some of the donations will go to the Waste to Waves project to help create eco-friendly surfboards.

Second, Access will be shredding and recycling documents for free on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the upper parking lot of City Hall.

Third, City Council will claim Nov. 15 as America Recycles Day during their Monday, Nov. 13, meeting. The city’s Environmental Sustainability Department will also be giving a presentation on recycling, pollution and waste reduction in Malibu.

Fourth, Malibu and Crayon Collection host a screening of “STRAWS,” an environmental documentary about the devastation caused by plastic pollution, followed by a discussion with filmmaker Linda Booker. The event will take place on Thursday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m. in the Civic Theater.
