I was driving down Pacific Coast Highway today and had a brainstorm. I don’t know how we managed for the past 30 years or so to conduct our lives here in Malibu without Zumirez matching up. Thank God, and the powers that be, we finally got that righted. Despite the fact that there have been many serious collisions over the years and even more near misses at Corral Canyon and PCH, we were somehow able to get a traffic light that clearly was essential to the Zumirez project. (Never mind that it is about a block away from the next traffic light at Kanan and PCH.)
Well, here is my great idea. I happened to notice that after Zumirez was painstakingly matched up, a nice little piece of property magically appeared contiguous to the Prudential real estate office. (Who owns that new property anyway?) I remember reading in the paper the mayor’s statement that we welcomed more than five million visitors to our little city over the past year. I think most people here were ecstatic that they came and we all hope that next year we can welcome even more. Now that we have a new traffic light at Zumirez, much of the highway congestion will obviously be eliminated.
But let’s get back to that little piece of property again. Maybe we could use it to put in a little strip mall. (A small, but tasteful used car lot, maybe?) Perhaps a 7-11 or a Carl’s Jr. would further enhance the lush life we live in Malibu. Just think how many of those five million visitors could now have some place besides the sand to drop off those beer cans and dirty diapers. Everyone could head smoothly back home, boom boxes blaring, with a Slurpee or a Big Gulp. And let’s fact it. We could all use a few tourist bucks. Isn’t that why we moved here in the first place?
