dog’s life

Since adopting a loveable young (mixed Shar-Pei) mutt from the Agoura Shelter last July, I find myself very busy making sure the dog is exercised, hence healthy, happy and less likely to get into mischief when I’m not home. I am somewhat frustrated that we don’t have a dog park in our beautiful dog-loving community.

In order to give Cindydog the opportunity to romp off-leash, wrestle, play and socialize with other four-legged pals, we have visited every dog park within a 30-mile radius. The nearest is on Malibu Canyon Road in Calabasas across the street from the A. E. Wright School, one mile before the 101 Freeway. But our favorite dog park is at the Oak Grove Park in Thousand Oaks. Needless to say, I would love having, and I know many others would also love having, a nice dog park locally.

Recently, I was asked by Mayor Sharon Barovsky to query dog friendly constituents if they are interested in such a project. I e-mailed everyone I know who has a dog as well as some I’m not sure even like dogs. I hope that other local dog lovers will e-mail Mayor Barovsky and cc your e-mail to me to let her know you are interested in a Malibu Dog Park and to let me know, so I can keep you posted on progress of the dog park via e-mail.

Related to this, there will be a meeting on Monday, April 11, at 4 p.m. in the City Hall conference room to set up a foundation to raise funds for recreational park projects including dog park, sports fields, etc. Interested parties are invited to attend.

Again, please contact Mayor Barovsky or myself to let us know you are interested in a Malibu Dog Park. The mayor’s e-mail is sharon90265@earthlink.net. And please cc your e-mail to me at malibumona@earthlink.net or call me at 457.1614. And encourage your dog loving friends to do the same.
