This year’s Citizenship Award recipient from Webster Elementary School is fifth grader Kane Rocca. Principal Patrick Miller said Kane demonstrates a desire to help those in need. After the Woolsey Fire that struck the Malibu community, Miller said Rocca wanted to help those affected by the tragic event by volunteering. Rocca works hard and shows compassion and concern for others and a desire to do the right thing. For the past five years, he has been learning Hawaiian Kempo and Jiu Jitsu and recently won first place in his first tournament earlier this March. Rocca’s activities include participating in Dance Star Boys Hip Hop for two years and Malibu Little League for the past five years; he has made the all star team for two years in a row. Rocca is the junior ambassador at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. He participates in meetings, annual trainings and special events alongside his sister; they have helped raise more than $15,000 for the children in the hospital.

“Although he has quite the resume of accomplishments already and at the ripe age of 11, perhaps one of the most striking things about him is his character and the way he carries himself each and every day. He leads others by his own example and isn’t afraid to speak and stand up when he needs to,” Miller said.
