Russell Phillbrick died at his home Nov. 16 after a long battle with cancer, with his wife of 64 years at his bedside. He was 86 years old.

Born on Oct. 9, 1922 in New York, Maine, he joined the U.S. Navy at age 18 and spent six years in the Pacific region due to World War II, where he earned the title of Chief Electricians Mate.

Phillbrick married wife, Tally, at the age of 22 in Maine. He worked at General Telephone Co. and was transferred to Santa Monica.

After 35 years of working for the company, Phillbrick retired in Malibu and became a member of the Malibu Optimist Club, a docent at the Adamson House and an Arson Watch member.

Phillbrick is survived by his wife, Tally, sons Bill, Mark and Scott, two daughters-in-law, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
