Brushfire burns quarter acre in Topanga

A fire started as a structure fire and spread into the brush, where it burned a quarter of an acre before it was extinguished, according to Capt. Lee Thompson of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

7:48 p.m. update: Traffic is open and running as normal on Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Old Topanga Road after a small brushfire Monday night caused delays. 


A brushfire in Topanga Canyon Monday afternoon has caused Old Topanga Road to be closed at its intersection with Topanga Canyon Boulevard.

The fire started as a structure fire at 3:10 p.m. and spread into the brush, where it burned a quarter of an acre before it was extinguished, according to Capt. Lee Thompson of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

As of 5:25 p.m., traffic going into Old Topanga Road was closed. Thompson said he was not positive whether authorities were letting residents in our not.

Traffic is currently backed up at south of the intersection on Topanga Canyon Boulevard.
