Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced several changes for Bus Line 534, the primary public transportation service between Santa Monica and Malibu, which will go into effect on Dec. 10.
The route of Bus Line 534 will be modified in downtown Santa Monica to improve connections with the Expo Line. The last bus stop will be on 5th Street just before Colorado Avenue, less than half a block’s walk from the Expo Line, which terminates at 402 Colorado Avenue.
According to LA Metro, the change will make it easier for passengers to transfer from Bus Line 534 to the Expo Line, the light-rail line between downtown Los Angeles and Santa Monica that opened May 20, 2016. The Expo Line operates from approximately 4:30 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. on weekdays and until 2:30 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. It currently runs at six-minute intervals during peak hours. The Expo stop has 10 bike rack spaces.
The current 534 bus eastbound stops on Santa Monica Boulevard at 6th Street; the stop at Santa Monica Blvd. at Lincoln Blvd. will be abandoned.
In addition, according to Canyon News, the frequency of Bus Line 534 will increase from approximately one bus every 20 minutes to one bus every 15 minutes during the afternoon peak Monday through Friday, and one additional bus trip each way on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
