In regards to the article on the “eviction” of the owners of Canine Connection…

As a board member of the nonprofit organization Malibu Pet Companions, which funds medical treatment for homeless animals abandoned at the Agoura Animal Shelter, I have had the privilege of working with Dr. Dean Graulich. He is not only one of the founders of Malibu Pet Companions but remains active as a board member continuing to help homeless animals. To portray him as not serving the animal rescue community and promoting the adoption of homeless animals is just unfair. Through his dedication, hard work, expertise and generosity, countless animals have been able to receive medical attention and a second shot at a happy life.

Malibu Pet Companions board and volunteers work tirelessly to promote the adoption of homeless animals through local shelters, like the Agoura Animal Shelter, over the purchasing of animals from breeders and pet stores. We would likely not exist to aid the homeless sick and injured animals if not for the generous donations received from the community and Dr. Graulich’s assistance in treating these animals. Dr. Graulich is also very active in our fundraising efforts and the promotion of those that truly cannot speak for themselves.

In addition, Joan Miller and her volunteers have now formed their own organization called Malibu Dog Adoptions and will continue to do their best to find homes for dogs in need.

Until whatever issues remain are resolved, their homeless dogs can always be seen on their Web site at www.malibudogadoptions.org. In the meantime, Malibu Pet Companions continues to operate through the generosity of public donations and assistance from local vets such as Dr. Dean Graulich and Dr. Lisa Newell.
