Playing the blame game

The City Council was found guilty of violating the Brown Act by three appellate judges. Mayor Stern and council member Sharon Barovsky dismissed their planning commissioners for a “possible” Brown Act violation and declared zero tolerance policy for such a thing. The City Council broke the law and they need to decide if they are going to apply their own zero tolerance standard to themselves. A double standard is unacceptable.

Ms. Barovsky is telling all who will listen that the council violated the Brown Act by following the city attorney’s advice, as if this made it okay. The city council must be able to rely on the advice of its attorney and so Barovsky made the perfect case for finding a new city attorney.
