News Briefs tell us that the city is continuing its “efforts to curb stormwater runoff into the Malibu watershed.” Isn’t collecting and directing runoff into a river, lake or ocean the definition of a watershed? It’s been going on here for millions of years so why try to curb it? We’re lucky, unlike the corn belt, to have an ocean to collect the runoff, thereby preventing flooding.
Malibu’s watershed is 27 miles long. It would take a massive investment to collect and direct 27 miles of stormwater runoff into Legacy Park. Talk about a flood plain. There goes the Civic Center, the shopping centers and Malibu Colony. The city must publicly publish a clear statement with support documentation of the details of this project, or is it just a ruse, all show and no go, to appease government regulators?
