The Malibu Lagoon Restoration Project seeks volunteers to help with maintaining and improving the project site.
During the summer of 2012 and spring of 2013, Malibu Lagoon underwent a restoration process to improve the health of its impaired ecosystem. Previously, the site was filled with excess sediment, which resulted in low oxygen levels and the threatening of ocean wildlife. The project removed contaminated soil and decades of trash buildup, improving water flows and circulation.
The next event will take place Saturday, Jan. 28, 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at PCH and Cross Creek Road. It is suggested that participants wear closed-toed shoes, and bring water, sunscreen and desired snacks. Tools and work gloves will be provided.
