Rock and Roll legend Tom Petty died of an accidental overdose of pain medication. That is according to a report released this week by the Los Angeles County Coroner. The Malibu resident and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame musician had several drugs in his system including Fentanyl, oxycodone and Xanax.
The 66-year-old superstar had just finished an exhausting 53-date tour despite a painful hip fracture. His family said he was informed the day he died that the injury progressed to a full break and suspect his self over-medication was due to overwhelming pain.
Despite his painful injury, his family says he wanted to honor his commitment to his fans who bought tickets to his 40th anniversary shows. Petty died Oct. 2, 2017.
