Part of the two-day celebration at the 17th annual Chumash Day Powwow includes song and dance performances.

The City of Malibu hosted the 17th annual Chumash Day Powwow and Intertribal Gathering at Malibu Bluffs Park Saturday and Sunday, April 11-12. The two-day cultural event was open to the public and celebrated and honored Malibu’s original residents, the Chumash Indians.

The family-friendly festival was free to attend. Festivities included a variety of Native American foods (including fry bread) arts and crafts, tribal ceremonies, dance, special guest performances and Chumash history storytelling.

Native Americans from hundreds of tribes from many western and southwestern states gathered at the park to sing, dance and celebrate.
