FEMA to pay for some debris removal
The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced last week that it would give the city $1.05 million to offset Malibu’s costs for removal of debris caused by January’s storms. The city has already paid $1.36 million for that debris removal. Most of the remaining sum would be funded by the state, while the city would not be reimbursed for a small portion.
Public Works Director Yugal Lall said there is an assembly bill going through Sacramento right now that would make it so Malibu and other cities would not be responsible for the costs of any of the debris removal.
The city must pay for several other projects involving storm recovery. Malibu is trying to get FEMA to reimburse it for those costs as well.
