Pianist Andrew von Oeyen, 30, a Malibu native, will perform with the New West Symphony on May 15 at Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, and May 16 at Barnum Hall in Santa Monica.
Von Oeyen grew up in Malibu. At age three, he sat next to his mother on the piano bench and began to pick out tunes. At age five he began piano lessons. At age six his mother was astounded by is ability to identify notes-he has perfect pitch.
Throughout his years in Malibu elementary and middle public schools, he surfed, swam and kayaked, and then practiced piano.
He made his debut with the L.A. Philharmonic at age 16.
Since then von Oeyen has performed with virtually every major orchestra in the world and has homes in Paris and New York City.
