To round out the recent principal appointments in Malibu, the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District appointed Lila Daruty as Webster Elementary School principal.
The announcement was made following her confirmation at the SMMUSD Board of Education special meeting on June 6.
“I am so honored and excited about the opportunity to be principal of Webster Elementary,” Daruty said in a statement shared by the school district.
She later added: “I am committed to bringing my love for learning and dedication to supporting the academic and social-emotional needs of all students. I know that through collaborative efforts we will continue to ensure Webster students become the creative and critical thinking innovators of our future.”
Previously, she served as Grant Elementary School assistant principal and the SMMUSD coordinator of beginning teacher induction in “half-time” capacities. The Webster position will be Daruty’s first time serving as principal of a school.
She has also taught at various elementary schools in Santa Monica and in the Hawthorne Unified School District.
As Daruty takes over at Webster Elementary on July 1, the school’s soon-to-be former principal Patrick Miller takes on serving as principal for Malibu High School. Meanwhile, Chris Hertz from the Beverly Hills Unified School District will take the helm at the newly named Malibu Elementary School, which combines the student populations of Juan Cabrillo Elementary School and Point Dume Marine Science School.
