Last week I was walking my 153 pound bull mastiff dog, named CBOE, on Westward Beach. CBOE managed to swallow two fishhooks! I raced CBOE to Malibu Coast Animal Hospital and called Dr. Dean Graulich on route. When we arrived, the staff was ready. Four of us lifted CBOE to the X-ray table. Fortunately, one fishhook was in his mouth, the other in his throat, neither in his stomach.
I am eternally grateful to Dr. Graulich and his staff for saving CBOE’s life and for holding my hand in the process. CBOE’s old nickname was “Big Head.” His new nickname is “Fishhook.” Just a warning. All dog owners should be careful of fishhooks on the beach.
