MUSE Co-Directors Receive 'Golden Carrot' Award

MUSE School in Calabasas was one of three schools to receive the 2014 “Golden Carrot” award during National School Lunch Week for the school’s unique approach to serving plant-based fare to its K-12 students, according to a release from the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.

In addition to the award, the school received a $1,500 award to support the schools’ Seed-to-Table lunch program, which includes an instructional kitchen, gardens and greenhouse.

The school is in the process of transitioning to an entirely plant-based menu for the next school year. MUSE co-founders believe the lunch switch will help save greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere.

A parent steering committee was also formed to ensure food served at the school would be popular among students.

A series of seminars is also planned throughout the year called MUSEtalks and will engage students in discussions about diet, health and sustainable food choices.
