Malibu local Louis Spirito has released a memoir, “Gimme Shelter,” which tells the story of how a rescue dog helped the author overcome a lifelong problem with anger.

The book includes obser vations about the ups and downs of dog ownership, as well as information about selecting, training and caring for dogs. Additionally, Spirito and his wife, Eugenie, will donate 10% of proceeds from book sales to animal rescue groups.

Spirito will be hosting two local book signings in conjunction with the release, one on April 25 at Diesel, A Bookstore, and another on May 18 at Bank of Books.

Spirito has written for publications such as The New York Times, Good Housekeeping and Men’s Fitness. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Iona College and a Master of Arts from Fordham University.
