Longtime Malibu resident William “Don” McGlynn died last Thursday morning at Kaiser Hospital in West Los Angeles after a short battle with cancer. He was 83.
A WWII veteran paratrooper and staunch Democrat, McGlynn moved to Dog Beach in the mid 1950s while working as a cameraman for NBC Studios. It was there in 1962 that he met his third wife, Vicky Temple. An avid volleyball player and body surfer, he raised his daughter Michelle and stepchildren Diana and Greg on the beach. McGlynn retired from NBC in the ’80s after a stint as chief engineer for the “Tonight Show.”
McGlynn is survived by his wife, Vicky and children Michelle, Diana, Greg and Sam, along with numerous grandchildren.
A gathering to celebrate McGlynn’s life will take place at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Malibu Nature Preserve located at the Malibu Riding and Tennis Club, at 33905 Pacific Coast Highway (3.5 miles west of Trancas Canyon Road). Refreshments will commence afterward. For additional information, call 310.456.7418.
