Did you know that the 2010 Census will help determine how more than $400 billion per year in federal funding is distributed to state, county and local (Malibu) governments? Did you know that census data can determine locations for hospitals and senior centers and forecast transportation needs such as safety on local roads and public transit options? Did you know that census data are used to reapportion seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and for redistricting of state and local governments? Did you know that Malibu has the lowest return rate of any city in Los Angeles County (58%)?
Starting this week, census workers will visit all Malibu households that have not returned forms to take the count in person. Completing and mailing back your form is the easiest way to participate since the Census Bureau saves $60 per census form when it is returned by mail.
I am calling on all of my neighbors to take 10 minutes and fill out the census form. If you have questions or can’t find your form, please go to http://2010.census.gov/2010census/how/questions/php for more information. The census really matters!
