All elections are important. In this great democracy, it’s up to voters to decide who gets elected, to select the public servants who will represent the best interests of the community and the best direction for the country.
That is an entirely subjective decision and it’s entirely up to each voter to choose, and to cast a ballot. Staying home and not voting is another choice, but whatever reason for that apathy, rest assured things don’t get better when citizens make that choice.
The Malibu Times regularly covers local politics, election news, informs voters and above all, encourages participation and citizen engagement in our democracy.
In fact, there is always more worthwhile coverage in this local paper than cable TV, with its sensational, shallow coverage, meaningless stories about polls, speculation, hype and 24/7 monotony.
Our democracy is strengthened when we are engaged, participate, stay informed and vote in every election.
With the Malibu city election, state legislature, congress, local measures and 17 statewide propositoins, that means here in Malibu there are more than 30 things to vote for on the ballot. President and vice president are but two.
The last day to register to vote is Monday, Oct. 24, applications for vote by mail must be received by Nov. 1, the polls open Tuesday, Nov. 8 from 7 a.m. — 8 p.m.
Your vote is the one that counts.
