The Malibu Search & Rescue Team responded to Malibu Creek State Park to aid an injured cliff jumper on Saturday, September 8, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The cliff jumper, identified as a 23-year-old man from Sherman Oaks, injured his ankle after jumping off a cliff above the “Rock Pool” area of Malibu Creek State Park, said a Sheriff’s Department press release.
The rescue involved Malibu Search & Rescue Team members hiking to the injured man’s the location with a litter basket and litter wheel. After being placed in the litter basket, the injured 23-year-old was hiked out of the location and given medical assistance by Los Angeles County Fire paramedics, as reported in the press release.
The “Rock Pool” area of the park has had an increase in rescues in recent years. The Sheriff’s Department thinks it’s due to the location’s popularity on social media sites.
“Thrill seekers are drawn to the cliffs above the Rock Pool water feature,” said Malibu Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, Reserve Sergeant David Katz.
