Longtime Malibu resident Dr. Daniel Hillman hosted 12 international psychotherapists who work with children at his Malibu home Aug. 3 for the third annual 21st Century Perspectives training program. Participants traveled from Holland, Mexico, Australia, Texas and all over California to attend the five-day program.
Hillman’s daughter, Karen Hillman Fried, led the program with her colleagues Lynn Stadler and Sue Talley, along with author and child therapy expert Violet Oaklander. Oaklander is the author of “Window to our Children,” published in 1978, and “Hidden Treasure: A Map to the Child’s Inner Self,” published in 2006.
The training session was based on the Oaklander Model, which involves using creative techniques like drawing and music to foster awareness and emotional growth with children.
