Letter: Adamson Unopened

I was delighted to read about the election of Linas Kojelis and to hear that the Adamson House Board of Directors is committed to reopening and repairing our beloved local treasure. I would urge the Board to begin its fresh start by updating the Adamson House website with accurate information.

Last Thursday, after checking the website, I took visitors from Turkey there. Not only is the house locked, there was not a single sign indicating that it was closed! As we took advantage of the open grounds, we ran into three other sets of visitors who, like us, were initially confused, and then deeply disappointed when they realized that the house was closed down. I felt really bad for those who had driven long distances to get there.

It took finding a State Parks groundskeeper to get the lowdown and learn that the house was only open for tours on Friday and Saturday. It is lamentable that there aren’t any docent crews to lead regular tours now, but it is unconscionable not to correctly inform the public of the operating hours. Returning to our car, we saw that someone — probably the State Park groundskeeper with whom I had spoken — pasted a hand printed “Friday” over the Tuesday to Saturday signage.

I strongly urge the new Board to update the website immediately so that the public can determine the actual operating hours, and I look forward to the “fresh start” to which it is committed.
