Give with the heart

With all due respect to Rabbi Cunin, I don’t think he got the point regarding Ozzie Silna’s refusing to honor his pledge to the Malibu Urgent Care. It was not Ozzie’s generosity that was being questioned, it was the political strings he attached to that generosity. If one is going to give a gift, it should be given willingly and from the heart, not given as a political donation that says, “You can have my money only if you toe my political line.”

Perhaps the rabbi could prevail on Ozzie to drop his support of the Coastal Commission’s attempt to govern Malibu. He would be the perfect person to point out to Ozzie that the Coastal Commission plan forces residents to sign deed restrictions that our outdoor lighting will never exceed 60-watt bulbs for “security” purposes and that we agree to have no other kind of outdoor lighting including any “lighting for aesthetic purposes.” That would exclude an illuminated Menorah or Christmas tree during the holidays. The commission is notorious for enforcing such ridiculous restrictions.
