The Malibu High football team closed its season on a winning note on Nov. 3, eking out a victory for the enthusiastic homecoming crowd.
Sharks defeated Frontier League opponent Fillmore High, 21-20. With the home victory, Malibu finished the 2017 season with a 6-4 record, a four-game win improvement over the season before.
The Sharks began this season with a 48-0 win over Mark Keppel on Aug. 25. The team’s second win was a forfeited victory over Windward. Malibu beat Beverly Hills, 19-14, for their third win before falling to Big Bear.
Malibu then recorded wins over McAuliffe (35-6), St. Monica (34-14) before losing games to Riverside Prep, Carpinteria and Santa Clara. The win over Fillmore ended the string of defeats for Malibu.
The Sharks, coached by Terry Shorten, had seven seniors on its 37-person roster.
The evening of festivities included the football game as well as the crowning of Alex Day and Lyla Masterson as homecoming king and queen.
