Malibu surf instructor Rich Lawson leads the City of Malibu’s surf camp during the summer months at Surfrider Beach. Each week, students ranging in age from seven to 14 learn about the basics of how to surf, ocean/water safety and oceans ecosystem, under the guidance of Lawson and his team of instructors.
Although students are there to learn the sport of surfing, Lawson also likes to teach the kids about the surrounding environment. “Be respectful, learn from it and always care about Mother Ocean,” Lawson shared. “Many participants have attended in the past years and we love to have them back. It is just great to see [the first-year surfers’] looks of joys when riding the waves.”
