Rockslide Blocks Access to Communications Center

Rocks block West Saddlepeak Road.

Last week’s heavy rainfall resulted in a rockslide blocking the roadway on upper West Saddlepeak Road. Boulders the size of cars fell onto the remote area high in the Malibu Hills. No injuries were reported.

The slide does not block access to homes in the neighborhood; however, it does prevent access to a large antenna farm. Communications companies such as Verizon, Frontier, Facebook and even the FAA keep equipment including antennas, satellite dishes and repeaters at the “farm,” which is now inaccessible. If service is needed for the equipment, no trucks would be passable on the narrow road, potentially affecting service. It appears no work is underway yet to clear the rocks.
