Jerri Churchill has been chosen as The Malibu Times Mother of the Year. Churchill’s five sons each submitted an essay describing in 250 words or less why they believe their mother deserved this award. Below are their essays.
Churchill will be treated to a dinner for two at BeauRivage Restaurant, an evening for two at the movies at Hollywood Theaters Malibu Cinema, a Massage by Natalie, hair cut and style by celebrity stylist Mitch Stone and three bottles of 2002 Semler cabernet, merlot and syrah wine by Malibu Family Wines.
The process of choosing a Mother of the Year was not an easy task, as all mothers, especially in their children’s eyes, are deserving of such an award. Another submission came in the form of a poem, so we decided to publish it in our regular Reader’s Poem corner on page B3.
This is the first year of the award, named in honor of publisher Arnold G. York’s mother, Rosie.

Ithink my mom, Jerri Churchill, should be mother of the year. She cooks us dinner and breakfast. She takes good care of us. She is a great mom. She plays games with me. She jumps on the trampoline with me. She surfs with me. She loves me and gives me double kisses. I love her.
Thank you,
Griffin Churchill, age 5

I think my mom, Jerri Churchill, should be mom of the year. She is a great mom. She always helps at our school and has been on all of my field trips for my entire life. My mom makes life worth living for me. I love her so much. If she is gone for even two days, when I see her, I feel fireworks in my heart. Right now she is on a business trip and she is going to be tired when she gets home and I want her to be treated like a queen. By awarding her the mother of the year, she would get all the nice things from your contest and feel like a queen. Please make my mom, the greatest mom ever, mother of the year.
Thank you,
Winston Churchill, age 9
I think my mom, Jerri Churchill, should be mom of the year because she is kind, caring and she cares about the environment. She takes care of her family and always does stuff for my brothers and me. She donates her time on Thanksgiving to feed the homeless and inspires us kids to donate. She takes time out of her day to come to our school and help out in all our classes. She helps with all the school parties. She is respected by her family and the community. That is why I think my mom should be mother of the year.
Thank you,
Kerns Churchill, age 11
