[Update: 2:21 p.m.] Westbound Pacific Coast Highway reopened Friday afternoon after a full closure of the freeway due to a vehicle fire, with one eastbound lane also opening up around 2:20 p.m.
The previously reported vehicle fire was also extinguished, Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station officials confirmed.
Pacific Coast Highway was closed in both directions in Malibu Friday afternoon due to a vehicle fire.
Officials with the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station said there were no injuries associated with the blaze, which “fully engulfed” one vehicle on the busy highway.
“There is a vehicle fire in the middle of the highway, vehicle fully engulfed, so they shut down traffic in both directions,” Watch Commander Sgt. Phillips told The Malibu Times just after 2 p.m. Friday, May 26. “It should be open soon; they’re waiting for the tow truck.”
Phillips added that the fire had not spread to any vegetation.
