The Malibu Rotary Club distributed funds raised at its Halloween Event, which took place Oct. 24, to three Malibu nonprofits at its weekly meeting on Dec. 17. More than $5,000 in funds were distributed to the Malibu Youth Football Team and Malibu Sharks Youth Surf Team, as well as the Rex and Friends Foundation. The remaining funds were placed into the Rotary Club’s charity account.Â
The Malibu Youth Football Team was created by local parent Michael Bonewitz. Forty-seven kids, ages six through 14, play on two youth football teams. The Malibu Sharks Youth Surf Team is comprised of 80 students from Malibu Middle and High schools who go to the beach at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays to surf or boogie board with this club.Â
