Approximately 125 people showed up wearing the right colors at the Malibu Republican Women, Federated’s Red, White and Maliblue Funraiser at Duke’s Restaurant on May 18. The guests enjoyed music, food and drinks and raffle and auction items. They also got a chance to meet some attending celebrities.
Pat Boone led the group in a singing of “God Bless America.” He also shared a political speech he had personally written about the cores of American value and how important and imminent it is for people to make sure those same values are protected today.
Television game show host Wink Martindale emceed the evening with funny jokes and invoked Red Skeleton’s true rendition of the Pledge of Alligance.
Radio talk show host Kevin James from AM 870 spoke with humor and lightheartedness, but seriously urged all to get involved both locally and nationally to get GOP voters to the polls in November.
Candidates Tony Stickland (19th state Senate District), Tom Vidal (53rd Assembly District) and Alex Soteras (chairman of the Republican Central Committee 41st District) gave brief speeches and asked for support in the Primary Election, which concluded Tuesday evening after The Malibu Times went to print.
Martindale congratulated Ashley Lewis, MRWF board member and associate producer on her documentary “No Subtitles Necessary; Lazlo and Vilmo,” which was shown at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
The evening concluded with thanks from President Alice Starr to all who came and to the sponsors of the event and to the committees who worked hard to put the successful evening together.
